On Wednesday this week we made the first shoot of the film and after months of preparation it was both a relief and an experience to get the first scene on video. We shot it at Molly Malone's Irish bar in Glyfada in the afternoon after they kindly let us use their premises. The scene was a simple one with no sound as such, just two people meeting. In the final edit there will be music playing over this or a narration. Here, my character arrives to find his new girlfriend (Tanya, played by Emmanuela Bardasu) waiting for him. The whole thing took a couple of hours to shoot and the most curious part was a dolly shot where the camera followed Tanya along the road. I borrowed a wheelchair for this (which we'll no doubt use throughout the rest of the shoot) and there it was: Emma walking along preceded by Tasos in the wheelchair filming, Rob pulling him and then John making sure Rob didn't fall off the pavement. Then we did the same scene but my character - Elliot - instead of Tanya.
As you can see, there were reflections everywhere in the mirror (the camera crew, Angelos taking this video and some guy wandering past) so we had to retake this one. Finally, here are a few still shots from the afternoon's shoot.
After all this I did a very rough edit of the sequence and it came out better than expected. We shot about 15 minutes of video in two hours or so and the final edit will take that down to maybe 30 seconds or less. So that means we'll finish the whole movie in about 2012. |
